The Inn at Castle Hill with Lindsey & Crispin

May 9th, 2012

We had the great pleasure of photographing a wonderful couple this past weekend in Newport RI.

The wedding took place  at the stunning  Castle Hill Inn & Resorts right on the water.

Our good friend Stasia Anthony of Exquisite Events  has done it again … A spectacular day, down to the very  last detail.

The amazing thing about Stasia is that she is truly there for the couple …

making sure that everything runs flawlessly and might I add “Exquisitely”.

The flowers were done by our dear friend, the incredibly talented Sayles Livingston.

Crispin, who is from England, decided to go for a swim, in the frigid Newport water. Brrr….

Tulum Mexico

May 2nd, 2012

There’s nothing quite like the beaches of  Tulum Mexico, where I spent my vacation with my beloved guys …

My idea of a perfect world is traveling for 4 to 6 months of the year with my family… Exploring cultures and meeting amazing people from all over the world.

I always happen to meet the best ;) people while traveling.

(Anurag and I met while we were both traveling in India) :)

We spent 2 weeks in beautiful Tulum, on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Where the sand is bright white with flecks of pink …

Yes, exactly like a postcard …

We took a day trip on a VERY bumpy road to get to Punta Allen … 40km ~ 2 hours of driving time

We got a glimpse at how mellow the area must have been,  before tourism hit. May that road stay forever unpaved!

The Sian Ka’an Biosphere is empty of tourists and just stunning.

We went to visit the Mayan ruins in Tulum.

Ruins are NOT the favorite part of a vacation  for a 7 year old boy who loves to run …

Engagement Portraits

April 19th, 2012

A wonderful way get to know a couple before their wedding day is with an engagement session.

I like to choose a location that has significance for the couple.

A place where they have vacationed, spent time some favorite moments or also a place they may visit every day.

For Heather and Mark, the couple in this feature, this place was Newport, Rhode Island in the spring time.

So much of what makes a portrait successful is capturing genuine emotion  … That for me, is the real art in photography.

It is very important for me to find a way to help someone relax, even though I am right there in front of them with a camera.

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

The time of day and lighting situation are very important with every location shoot.

Early morning sunrise as well as late afternoon to sunset are my favorite hours. The light is warm and makes everyone look radiant.

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

When I began my journey into photography, I fell in love with black and white images.

Spending hours in the darkroom, developing film and processing fiber based prints.

What I love most about black and white images is that they transcend any time period.

The focus is on the scene rather than getting lost in all the color.

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

An then there is the beauty of color …  which is also fun to get lost in … :)

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

So many spots are discovered while just walking … seeing where the light is dancing, the textures of a wall …

I love this spontaneous spirit while shooting a portrait.

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

A few different outfits and looks can completely change the feel of a portrait.

Outfits that makes you feel beautiful and comfortable bring out the best in you.

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

Digital photography gives you an almost unlimited range of  possibilities for the post processing.

Playing with some cool filters here … like an old Polaroid from the 70′s …

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

It is so important for me to have enough time with whomever I am photographing.

Just having the time to see who they are, what makes them smile …

It’s a gift that I am allowed into someone’s private world …

where intimacy and connecting with your beloved is typically not done in front of a lens.

(c) M Benedicte Verley Photography

Thank you to all my beautiful couples who have allowed me in …

It has been such a joy and an honor!
